Key West, Fla. – Connor & Gaskins Unlimited (CGU), a Naples-based national construction firm, is proud to announce the completion of a 24-unit residential building located at 255 Trumbo Road in Key West, FL. This property is dedicated to providing essential workforce housing for local first responders and public safety workers.
The project, which commenced in June 2023, was completed in July 2024 — an impressive six weeks ahead of the original timeline. The project was also delivered 10% under the projected budget.
“Despite the unique challenges associated with building in the Keys, particularly due to its remote location, our exceptional project team exceeded expectations, delivering a final product beyond what we had envisioned,” said Mike Zehe, operations manager at CGU. “This achievement underscores the power of a strong team and solid partnerships. When those elements are in place, anything is possible.”
The newly completed building will house first responders and public safety workers from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Key West Police Department and other city employees. The property features a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, including an ADA-accessible first elevated occupied floor. To date, fifteen units are already occupied.
“We couldn’t ask for a more meaningful project than one that provides housing for the men and women who tirelessly serve the greater Keys community,” added Zehe. “This project was made possible by our generous client, who has ultimately donated this invaluable resource to the community.”
